EU AI Act
What does Art. 50(4) of the EU AI Act regulate?
It requires disclosure when image, audio or video content has been generated or manipulated with AI and may therefore appear authentic. For online merchants, this applies to photorealistic product or lifestyle images created entirely or partly with AI.
Since when does the labelling obligation apply?
The transparency obligations under Art. 50 have applied since 2 August 2026. Images that were already in your store at that point are covered just like new ones.
Do I really have to label every AI image?
Not every one. Among other things, it depends on whether an image looks realistic and how much AI was involved. That is exactly what the decision assistant is for: one question with four answers in plain language. If the image metadata shows signs of an AI generator, the matching answer is already pre-selected.
What is the difference between “AI generated” and “AI modified”?
“AI generated” stands for images created entirely with AI. “AI modified” marks real photos that were substantially altered with AI, for example by replacing the background. Visibl offers you both official EU icons.
Does Visibl replace legal advice?
No. Visibl makes assessment, labelling and documentation simple and traceable. For your individual legal situation, please consult a lawyer.

Which images does Visibl cover?
Every image in your store: product photos, collection images, hero banners, images in blog posts and on pages. Usage tracking shows you where each image is used.
Overlay or burn-in: which is better for me?
The overlay places the label on top of the image without changing the original file and can be adjusted at any time. Burned-in labels are part of the image file and stay visible wherever the image is used – on Instagram, in Meta or TikTok ads, in Google Shopping feeds and on marketplaces. Visibl creates a backup automatically beforehand.
Does the overlay change my theme or layout?
No. The overlay is placed on top of the existing image without shifting the size or position of any elements. Your theme code stays unchanged.
Where is my data stored?
All decisions, labels and log entries are stored as metaobjects right in your Shopify store. The app itself is hosted in the EU. Visibl does not process personal data of your customers.
What happens if I uninstall Visibl?
Overlay labels are removed together with the app. Burned-in labels are part of the image file – restore the originals before uninstalling if you want to.
Pricing & billing
How is Visibl billed?
Exclusively through Shopify. The monthly fee appears on your Shopify invoice. The Free plan is free forever.
What counts as an active label?
Any image that currently carries a Visibl label, whether as an overlay or burned in. Once you remove a label, it no longer counts towards your quota.
Can I switch plans at any time?
Yes, right in the app. An upgrade takes effect immediately. Uninstalling ends billing automatically.
